I finally caved in and bought World of Warcraft today. If you don’t know what it is, then you must not know anyone that plays PC games. It’s a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game (MMORPG) made by one of the top PC game developers. Just about everyone I know is playing it. It comes up at work almost everyday, in some context or another. Almost everyone knows someone (not at my company of course!) who just plays this game all day and doesn’t get any work done.
Well, I thought it would be a bad idea for me to buy it. I am known for getting addicted to games. (I think it took me 4-5 years to get over Civilization, by which time, the sequel was out, and I could see I was never going to escape). But I need to know what all the excitement is about. I’ve never played a MMOG, and this one has a lot of people I know playing it. So, I’ll crack the box this weekend, and report back in a few days. If I can pull myself away… Wish me luck!

I know several people playing WoW as well. I would get it, as I know it’s cool and all, but I can’t justify the monthly expenditure. If I was a student, with loads of free time to play, I would probably buy it. But since I have a full time job, I don’t think it’s worth it, as I wouldn’t get enough play time to get my money’s worth.
Good luck, and have fun!
Dude I would have bought that a long time ago if they didn’t have that monthly payment plan. I was told Guild Wars was sweet and did not have a monthly cost, but a Game Stop employee warned me against such a purchase. Anywho, my concentration is now fixed on the upcoming sequel “Black and White 2″. The game looks like it is going to be incredible. Also Civ 4 is coming out later this year too. I have had a Civ game in my home since my family’s first computer. That game got me through my high school Ancient History class with flying colors. What games are you currently working on? And when are they going to be released?
I don’t know that I have the time to justify the payments either, but I had to at least give it a try! I’m curious about what everyone is talking about. And I’ve loved every other Blizzard game I’ve played.
I’m really looking forward to Civ 4 as well, but that’s MONTHS away. What am I gonna play until then?!? (Of course, I still haven’t finished Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, despite getting to the final dungeon 3 weeks ago!)
What I’m working on hasn’t been announced yet. I’ll definitely post when it is. But my last game was Empire Earth II (that came out in April).
History, I learned geography from Civ! Ancient capitals and the like!
