As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been studying Kung Fu for four years. I’ve been marking my progress over the last few months, and today I finally reached a new rank. I got my second stripe. It’s a big accomplishment and I feel so fantastic about it. I described the YMAA system in an earlier post, so I won’t repeat myself. Suffice it to say that not that many people get to their 2nd stripe. Maybe it’s like getting your black belt? Maybe? I’ll have to ask my teacher if he’d agree with that. In any event, I passed Qi Mei Gun today, which was the last of 5 things I needed to test. It’s a staff sequence, so it’s the first weapon sequence I’ve passed. Very cool.
Unfortunately, the new rank is slightly bittersweet since I will be leaving within the next month and won’t get to continue my progress with the YMAA school Long Fist and White Crane Kung Fu. I’m hoping to find a school out in San Francisco - I hear there are many many great martial arts schools out there. I just need to find one that’s as good a match to my personality as the one I had here. Oh, and one that does a similar style so I don’t feel like everything is slightly wrong all the time! That would be confusing.
But I am now officially leveled up. Ding.

TT,
Congrats on all the great stuff going on. Now I know who I want to cover my back should I ever get in a brawl. Have you had a chance to see the ‘real-life’ Tekken? Although the special effects aren’t the best, it’s a fun waste of four minutes.
