Ok, one more post before I go! I have been a fervent TiVo fan for many years. But since I got my HDTV, my enthusiasm has waned. If I had started this blog a couple of years ago, you would have been inundated with posts galore extolling the virtues of TiVo and its life changing properties. But I figure you all know about TiVo and DVRs already so I don’t need to rant. And really, I tend to use my Comcast DVR more, since it records in high definition. Who wants fuzzy low res tv when I can have it so much prettier, even if the box is less smart…
I just read this article imparting the news that the next TiVo service release will allow you to play your TiVo shows on your iPod or PSP. I don’t have one of the new-fangled video iPods, but I do have a PSP. I’m actually charging it up right now in preparation for my travel. If I could easily load it up with shows from my TiVo archive, that’d be great! I’d be so on board for that.
There have certainly been many articles sounding the death knell for TiVo. The end of its partnership with DirectTV, the success of generic DVRs (though that article talks about how people don’t use TiVo as a verb, and that’s actually something that TiVo wanted to stop, risk of losing copyright through fair use or something, but anyway). But all these big picture lookers aren’t talking to me, I tell ya. Despite using my Comcast DVR as my primary box, I still run two TiVos. And you know why? Because they’re always introducing new features.
I can stream music to my Series2 box and listen to anything from my computer (in my office) out of my awesome setup in my living room. They just introduced overlap protection (about time!) so that even when NBC tries to screw me over by starting ER at 9:59, it’ll still record both that show and CSI. Thank you, finally! What else? I don’t know, I just love the whole box. The UI is great, the sounds are a part of my brain now (that little *boop* noise, come on, it’s awesome), and I will happily keep giving them a measily $6.95 a month until forever.
So keep it up, keep giving me reasons to keep giving you money! And I will.
