There was one section that was completely stupid and I got a 0% on it. Otherwise I did pretty well.

In more re-blogging news, Kristen Bell is joining the cast of Heroes! I’ve mentioned before how much I loved Veronica Mars, and Kristen Bell’s awesomeness was certainly a part of that. Heroes is goodness, so the combination is betterness.

Just watched Hot Fuzz and I was disappointed. I had high hopes for huge laughs. It wasn’t huge laughs. For most of the movie it was actually vaguely amusing but slightly painful. The last 30 minutes or so were the best part of the movie, for me. I laughed out loud a few times. All in all, the movie was clever but I actually found the extras funnier than the movie. well, some of them.

Don’t want to give away anything about major plot points, but vaguely the movie is about a London cop who’s too good at his job so he’s “promoted” to a position at a quiet town in the country. And there’s not much going on there, apparently. There’s a long portion of the movie where he’s becoming more and more lost and it was just a bit painful. But ultimately there’s a climatic shoot out like you’d expect from the cop movies it’s parodying and that was pretty fun.

To the extras. The outtakes were quite amusing. There’s just something about watching actors completely unable to keep a straight face. They have a long video of their American press tour which starts out quite funny, but as the tour continues, they got obviously more and more exhausted and the humor becomes a bit … crude.

Whoa - Hot Fuzz out grossed Shaun of the Dead in just 4 days, or so says the end of this documentary. That’s impressive.

I find few movies or shows that actually make me laugh out loud. I’m constantly watching movies, and I’m willing to try most anything. But this was one that I thought would really be a keeper for me. Unfortunately I have to say it was just one that was nice to visit.

There was some news today about new hires on House. Seems like House really did lose his entire staff. I like Cameron and Chase! I hope they’re not gone for good. According to some comments over on TV Squad they’ll be coming back, just not working for House. Hope so!

I don’t know if I have been missing the emails telling me about upcoming Flecks or if there just hasn’t een one in a while, but tonight was my first Flecks in quite some time. Flecks, if you’re just tuning in, is a tradition at ILM where they watch horrible, terrible movies and heckle the screen. Tonight’s gem was Transmorphers, a direct-to-DVD movie to jump on the Transformers hype.

Transmorphers is brought to us by The Asylum, the same company (and director!) who brought us the glory of Snakes on a Train. This movie was actually markedly better than Snakes was! I know, it’s hard to believe. Instead of being the worst movie ever, it was perhaps the 27th worst movie ever.

Picture every sci-fi movie cliche you can imagine. Picture tidbits culled from Battlestar Galactica and the Matrix. Picture visual effects about as the first animation homework at art school. You picturing all that? Are you smiling? Then you must be a masochist and Flecks is for you!

There was something about it being the future and an invasion by robots that wiped out 90% of the human population. I think they were living underground? And apparently gay marriage is legal in the future because there was the required lesbian bit with a married female couple. Other than that, it’s a blur of terrible dialog, horrible acting and poor combat scenes. Then we watched the VFX special feature on the DVD. That was a hoot. Sitting there with folks from ILM watching some yahoo talk in remedial language about his effects work was just too much. Oh, it was good.
