I like to stop by Amazon every now and again to see what books and music and more it recommends for me. It has a huge database of books and items I’ve bought, plus years ago I spent a long time rating items for hours on end (I can be a bit weird, I know). Today I stopped by for the first time in a while and clicked on the upcoming releases recommendations. Here’s one of the ones it had for me.
Yup, Amazon recommended the game I’m working on to me. I found that amusing. It was the only game recommendation, actually. I guess that’s kind of cool!

Ha, gmail recommends Civ4 to me ALL THE TIME!
That is really really very funny.
Wonder what gave it that idea.
I kept getting ads and offers for “AI Game Programming Wisdom 4″ from all over the place - including Amazon… and I am a contributor to the book.
On a related Amazonian note, like many people, I have an Associates account with links on my site. I looked at the purchases people had made through that account last winter. Mixed in among the various game dev books that people had bought off my links, I saw the following title:
“Big, Beautiful, and Pregnant: Expert Advice and Comforting Wisdom for the Expecting Plus-Size Woman”
The Sesame Street song kinda comes to mind. “Which of these things is not like the other? Which of these things just doesn’t belong?”
Hmm, I have an Amazon Associates account as well. I know they scan the site content to put up appropriate ads (down on my site at the moment, but will return when I have time to re-do things), now I’m wondering if they feed that info back to my purchasing data! That would be… creepy.
