Today was the San Francisco AIDS Walk. Thanks to generous contributions from friends and family I raised over $600 (and I think with matching it’ll top $700)! Thanks to everyone who helped out.
There was a great crowd out there, I think they said 25,000. All told everyone has already raised $4.2 million. Which is pretty amazing. I walked in a “team” with my friends Jeff and Laurel. Together the three of us raised close to $2000, maybe more than that once the matches come in!
I took some pictures as we were registering and getting ready.
At the starting line:
Gavin Newsom, SF City Mayor, was in attendance. I snapped some pics of him. He creeped me out for some reason. Not that I talked to him or anything.
Oh, and sure, here’s me.
I tragically didn’t stretch before the walk. Started the day with a dash to the supermarket to buy snacks and some water. Then a walk over to Golden Gate Park (a bit more than a mile), then 6.2 miles! We were walking at a good clip. At around mile 5, my hip spasmed and did something kooky. I limped the rest of the way in pain. Not so fun. But we finished in under 2 hours, which is pretty good. Then a painful limp home to lie on my couch and think about the benefits of stretching and how I’m getting older. 
But the AIDs Walk was a big success and I’m proud to have been a part of it!

There is something really freaky about that Newsom character. He looks more like he should be trying to sell you something on HSN.

Wow, there’s a lot of people there!
I still find it strange and neat that there’s such a difference in temperature/climate between SF and just a short distance south down where I am. I put both cities in my Google home page so I don’t get caught unprepared when I make a trip to the city. One time I went without a thicker jacket, and it was not so much fun.
