Weird Site Bug

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I’m having a weird issue where my site theme resets every night. So if you come by and see my using the blue default Wordpress theme and wonder what I’m talking about with my “new theme” then wonder no more. It’s a bug! I swear, I have a handcrafted custom theme! It’s here, really!

UPDATE: The reset problem is caused by having an “invalid theme”, apparently. Which means I have some invalid php or sql queries running somewhere but I have no clue where. I’m disabling plugins one by one to try to track it down, but if anyone knows what is causing this, let me know!

Site changes

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I’m in the midst of several changes to the site, so pardon the dust while we renovate! We’ve moved the site to a new server and changed the base url from tara.teich.net/blog to just http://tara.teich.net. The old links should still work and just redirect you, but let me know if you have any troubles. Some images haven’t made it over yet, but I’m trying to find out where they are and restore them.

I also finally upgraded to the newest version of Wordpress, 2.3.2. I’d been working on a new theme in my spare time and though it’s not quite ready I’ve gone live with it anyways. There’s a kooky Internet Explorer-only bug with the CSS that I can’t quite figure out which makes my columns way too long. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, let me know!

So if there’s anything not working or missing, give a shout and I’ll try to fix it up.

There’s a new preview and web doc up on Yahoo with more info on the game I’m working on, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Go check it out.

WoW Flashback

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I’m laughing at myself right now. I just went to take a look at some of my earliest blog posts and found the first one after I’d started playing World of Warcraft. Feel free to take a look. My favorite part?

I played all the way through Diablo 2 twice, and started at least five other characters. I cannot possibly do the same online - this game is just too big for that!

Hahaha. I think I’ve started something like 20 characters. Admittedly, only a few have made it anywhere near the endgame. But how naive I was, oh poor innocent Tara of yesteryear.

Finished Mass Effect

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I completed my playthrough of Mass Effect this weekend. Total logged time played, 35 hours and 19 minutes. I did almost every side quest in the game. Well, at least all the ones I found. When I was done I only had about 2 collection quests I hadn’t quite managed to complete.

I have to say I changed my opinion on what I loved and hated a bit as I put more time into the game. I definitely got better at combat. I still hate the Mako. And I realized that there’s a NORTH arrow on the minimap, so it’s really quite possible to use it for navigation if you keep your eye on that.

I was a bit annoyed because I didn’t get some achievements I was expecting to get. There are achievements for playing through the most of the game with each of the squad members, and I swear I played through almost exclusively with two members. But right at the start, I was trying different ones out. Apparently, it’s a mission count thing, not a time played thing, because I probably used the members I had for 30 hours, but I didn’t get the achievements. Oh well, what can you do?

I’m still not quite done with the game, I started it up with a new main character, since I played as a woman the first time I was curious to see how it played as a man. I know that it’s the same, but I wanted to hear the dialogue, pick the “dark side” and be a renegade instead of a paragon. At least for a little while. And I also wanted to try out a different character class. So I’ll come back and give some more thoughts (if anyone can bear more thoughts on this game I’ve already written several essays about) once I’m really truly done. :)
