Just read another article about the World of Warcraft expansion, this one over at Gamespy. I think I read some synopses of this talk before, it took place at Blizzcon. But here’s the pertinent part:

Naturally one of the first questions was about the new un-announced Alliance race to be featured in the expansion. Metzen gave no hints, and implied that they’re still working out all the details. But he did acknowledge that once everyone hears about the new race, part of it will make sense, and part of it will make everyone go “huh?” …We can’t even speculate. (But it won’t be Pandas.)

There you go. That really sounds final. *sigh* It would have been super cool.

Hi, welcome to my site peoples. I’ve updated the About Me page to actually say something about me. I’ll possibly add some more stuff as time goes by, so go back and check it. I probably won’t bother to keep posting on the main page whenever it changes. But since it’s just gone live, there you go. Check it out.

I was away for a short vacation, and I return to read all sorts of news in the game industry front. It seems Bioware and Pandemic are merging into a mega-international gaming entity. I find this dismaying. Possibly because I am a huge fan of Bioware’s products. They make wonderful roleplaying games, and I worry about anything that might mess with their mojo.

I’m sure Pandemic is quite a lovely place, but the titles they have put out are not of particular interest to me - Full Spectrum Warrior and Destroy All Humans may have good buzz, but they do not fall into a genre that I spend time on. It seems like an odd pairing, in that there is not any overlap in the titles they create. Currently, at least. And I think fans of both studios would prefer it remain that way.

If you’re curious about World of Warcraft server populations, how many Horde vs. Alliance players there are, the breakdown by race, etc, then check out this site. I found it a while ago, but was having trouble tracking it down again through google. So now, here’s a link so you and I can find it in our time of need.

Warcraft Census

I finally completed a game of Civilization IV today, so felt I was now qualified to share my thoughts on it. Let me start by saying that as soon as I won, I opened up World of Warcraft and started playing that. Which should be a big indicator that there’s something wrong in the world of Civ4.

I’ll start with what I like. They went with a full 3D engine using Gamebryo, and it was a good move. The units look good, the cities look more alive and are now actually integrated into the world. Here is one of my cities, at three levels of detail.
