Site Additions to Follow

Friday, September 30th, 2005

So the astute might notice a few small changes to my sidebar. I was talking to my sister-in-law Olivia today about the list of books I’d like to read. And she mentioned that my blog was a good place to put that list. And I thought, that Olivia, she’s wicked smart. (Because I’ve been living in Massachusetts for over five years now, it’s required that I use the word “wicked” as an adjective meaning very/extremely at least once a week). So on the sidebar, you’ll notice a “Lists” section. It’s a work in progress, expect to see more there in the near future. And there’s only one book on there right now. I’m open to reading suggestions. Also, added an About Me page, but I haven’t had time to write anything appropriately interesting. So check back, more to come.

Buying Guide

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

I was reading Brinstar’s blog and she was reviewing some products and mentioned this web site: Don’t Buy Junk. It’s pretty nifty. It has the major gadget categories you could care about, and some pretty cool settings to help you narrow down your search. I’m definitely gonna take a look around and see if there are any gadgets I need so I can use that site to get the best one! Wait. That’s not the way it’s supposed to go, is it?

Civ4 - the Mod

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

I’ve been really excited about Civilization 4. I am a huge fan of the Civilization series, and have lost so many hours of my life to that franchise that World of Warcraft can’t even begin to compete. At least not yet. So I’ve been very afraid of what would happen next month (the hopeful release date) when I have both my old and new addictions to deal with.

But then I read this article over at news0r. It’s written by the Senior Producer over at Firaxis, and it talks about how much you’ll be able to mod Civ4. Which we all know is a big selling point for games nowadays. Modability adds legs to a title. The more fans are creating new content, the more people will pick up the title several months or even years after the game was released. And most PC games do not have legs, so anything we can do to help is good. But we are still responsible for making the best game we can make.

Game Comics Are Good

Monday, September 26th, 2005

VG Cats is another web comic which I’ve read on occasion. You’d think, “Wow, video games and cats, that sounds like just the site for Tara!” But I didn’t really get into it on my first few encounters. There is a lovely comic about the next gen comics over there now, though. For mature audiences only. And if you don’t know why I said that, then it’s ok, someday you’ll understand.

Oh, and Penny Arcade was quite funny today. Again, the easily offended should not read. But I especially like the one about the snakes. Don’t ask me why, but that made me laugh.

Why am I scared to be American?

Monday, September 26th, 2005

I’m not usually openly political, but this sent a chill through my heart. From an article about the relief work done on our most recent hurricane Rita.

The Pentagon said soldiers and Marines had rescued about 1,000 people in flooded coastal areas of southwest Louisiana in the past 24 hours.

The military’s success in those rescues and helping restore order after Katrina had the Defense Department wondering if the 1878 law restricting use of troops for domestic purposes needs to be tweaked. Bush had said on Sunday that Congress should consider giving the military a lead role in responding to natural disasters.

From here. I keep picturing troops invading my state of Massachusetts just because they can. To “help” us and “correct” our view of how things should be. Right. Because it’s a “natural disaster” - our crazy liberal ideas on gay marriage and such.
